Welcome to Bodhran Wisdom, a site that goes beyond jigs and reels and into the deeper aspects of Bodhran Drumming.
For thousands of years the Bodhran, (or whatever it was called back then) was primarily a ceremonial and ritual drum, and it is these aspects that this site will try to address.
However, in order to use the drum for its original purposes it is necessary to learn how to play it. So on this site you will also find some simple guidelines for playing in both traditional and more progressive modern styles. |

So this site is meant to serve three purposes. Firstly help beginners have fun with this remarkable instrument, how to play it and how to look after it. Secondly to introduce existing bodhránii to the world of drumming for ceremonial and ritual purposes; and finally to provide a unique prompter and resource for those who already practice meditation, story telling, shamanism, healing or street performance, and would like to explore the contribution this drum has to make.
